Different experts from various fields will be delivering presentations and participating during seminars at The HSBC Malta Property Expo. Particularly those interested in property were invited to attend and encouraged to participate in these public seminars. Entrance was free of charge, however space is limited. All presentations and seminars were conducted in English.

The management of communal buildings such as office and residence blocks is a complex task that is fast becoming an expected feature by many international property buyers. How is Facility Management integrated at the design stage, how does it enhance the life of a property and how are service charges calculated?

Dilip Khatwani is Chief Executive of Reliance Facilities Management and partner in the International Property Alliance. Based in Dubai he enjoys a wealth of experience in providing FM services to banks, hospitals and residential blocks.

Letting forms an important part of the real estate industry. What is the potential of property letting in Malta right now? What sort of supply is there and does this meet the demand? How would the rental reform being discussed effect the market? How do industries like i-Gaming and financial services effect the letting market?

Ian Casolani is Treasurer of the Federation of Estate Agents and Director of Belair Real Estate – A company with a letting team that specialises in rentals of upmarket properties. He is also a director and partner of LandOverseas Fund Sicav plc licenced and regulated by the MFSA.

Delivered by marketer Keith Pillow, this presentation is aimed at property developers and owners who are interested in exploring the benefits that can be brought about through improved product design and branding.

Keith Pillow is Managing Director of Duplex Real Estate Branding and has more than ten years experience in branding and marketing a variety of products and services. For the past five years he has concentrated on marketing real estate projects on an international scale.


 

18.00 – 20.00 THE STATE OF THE PROPERTY MARKET
General Interest

Who should attend: Estate agents and property negotiators, property developers and anyone interested in the industry in general.

Moderated by Manuel Micallef, a panel of property experts comes together to informally discuss what is going on in the property market from their perspective. Estate agents, property developers and the general public is invited to attend and actively participate in the discussion.

The panel includes Trafford Busuttil from the Federation of Estate Agents, Sandro Chetcuti from The Malta Chamber of SMEs (GRTU),  Frank Salt from Frank Salt Real Estate and Angelo Xuereb from AX Holdings. Paul Owen from the Association of International Property Professionals (UK) and Nick Cartridge from Avion Properties Australia will be adding an international dimension to the discussion.

Who should attend: Anyone interested in getting to know the British property buyer.

For various reasons, the British market is obviously the one with the largest potential for us to sell to. In this presentation, Paul Owen will explain why Britons buy property overseas, what they are looking for and how our proposition can be made more attractive to them. He will also give some insight into the present market realities that Britain is going through and what we may expect in the future.

Paul Owen is chairman of the Association of International Property Professional. He travels extensively and meets developers and estate agents at all levels all over the UK and in various other countries where the AIPP is active.

Luxury villas to apartments, converted and unconverted houses of character and even commercial and investment opportunities are expected to go under the hammer at the property auction. All properties on auction are extremely well priced because the vendors want to sell quickly avoiding the distress of a long delayed sale.

Those interested in bidding may view the auction’s catalogue on the website (maltapropertyauctioneers.com) and may request to view the properties in advance. Bidders may then bid by attending the auction, by leaving a closed bid with the auctioneers or by placing an offer prior to auction day. If one attends the auction, he or she will also need to have a 10% deposit (payable by certified cheque or bankers draft) along with some form of ID such as a passport, driver's license or utility bill.

The Kamra tal-Periti is proud to announce leading Italian architects Franco Purini and Laura Thermes for the first in a series of debates for Architecture Nights 09. These debates, now in fourth third edition, have gained strong momentum and popularity following the participation of award-winning world-renowned international architects and practices. Purini and Thermes will delve into their vision of architecture through their experience and projects.

Franco Purini is Professor of Architectonic Composition and City Planning at the Valle Giulia Faculty of Architecture of the La Sapienza University in Rome. In 1966 he set up a studio with Laura Thermes. Together they have dealt with city planning problems and with issues of architectural language.

Daniel has been involved in finance continuously since 1980, working on a multitude of finance, corporate troubleshooting and corporate restructuring projects, and is currently restructuring a publicly traded oil & gas company in Texas. Daniel is a member of the South East Asia Petroleum Exploration Society and the American Bankruptcy Institute.

Who should attend: Anyone interested in getting to know more about the benefits of improving energy efficiency in buildings.

Apart from being more environmentally friendly and costing less to run, “green” buildings provide a competitive edge in property sales and letting. This presentation explains how higher energy efficiency can be achieved in homes, offices, hotels and industry and explores how these measures effect the value of the property.

David Scicluna Giusti and Louis Borg will conduct this presentation. Engineer Scicluna Giusti has worked as an electronics and EMC engineer in private sector R&D and on the Mater Dei Hospital project where he was responsible for the inspection of all electrical installations. He is now specializing in energy efficient lighting at Elektra. Louis Borg set up Eco Group in 2000, long before “eco-efficiency” became the buzzword it is today .He registered three patents in the field and has conducted energy audits and consultancy to numerous companies, institutions and households.

Malta is being developed into a Mediterranean centre of excellence and this is bound to positively impact the industry. What is this vision and how will it matter? With a refreshing outlook, Joseph G. Woods explores how the property market may be affected by Vision 2015.

Joseph G. Woods is a Business Development Consultant who over twenty-five years has provided consultancy services to government, business and voluntary organisations. He is currently providing consultancy services to the World Centre for New Thinking and is a creative thinking trainer in Dr. Edward de Bono’s techniques and methodologies.
