The HSBC Malta Property Expo 2010
The second edition of the HSBC Malta Property Expo attracted thousands of visitors to the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre in Ta’Qali over the first weekend of March. Although inclement weather on Sunday may have kept attendance figures slightly lower than last year, the vast majority of exhibitors expressed their satisfaction that the quality of enquiries they received was superior. Most exhibitors went away with filled appointment books and serious sales leads that they expect to turn into sales over the weeks and months following the event. Moreover, excellent networking contacts were made between the eighty exhibitors themselves and the general feeling was very positive.
During the launch on Thursday 4 March, Parliamentary Secretary for Land, Dr. Jason Azzopardi, congratulated the organisers Duplex Real Estate Branding on the level of organisation, professionalism and stand designs put up by many of the exhibitors. "Taking into consideration the economic situation, one sees that this sector is truly a flexible one that is capable of reinventing itself by supplying the end customer with innovative services and products," he said.
Andrew J. Ripley, Head of Personal Financial Services of HSBC also congratulated the organisers and affirmed the bank’s satisfaction to be associated with such a high calibre “world class event”. The bank, which last year concluded over 250 million Euro of new mortgage business, is main sponsor of The Malta Property Expo.
For the first time this year, the Expo also featured a design competition for third year architecture students from the University of Malta. The twenty shortlisted entries that were on display were judged by senior architects from the Kamra tal-Periti, Vincent Cassar and Keith Cole, with student Roderick Bonnici being awarded as the overall winner receiving a prize and an internship opportunity. The students gained valuable experience and exposure to the industry through this initiative. Click here to view Roderick Bonnici's work.
Work on the next edition of the property expo has already started as the organisers plan a more ambitious drive to attract more foreign visitors next year. “We invited a number of potential strategic partners to visit the Expo and their feedback was extremely positive”, said Keith Pillow, CEO of Duplex REB. The company is now following up these contacts to continue to elevate the level of organisation and increase the effectiveness of this event next year.
